"I recently have had extensive contact with our old friend Philippe Mogane. I felt we needed to set the record straight concerning Philippe and the circumstances surrounding this record and Siamese Records in general." " We did meet Philippe thru an old girfriend, Dawnie Diladid, and Phillipe did indeed release the classic Stooges single, 'Igot a Right b/w Gimme some Skin'. He did not steal the tapes, in fact came by them legitimately as a gift from James Williamson himself. Kidd Spike and I greatly admired the cuts and we were excited to to be signed to the same label, Siamese Records." "While we never did make any money from the single, it does stand out as one of our better works. World famous (now!)artist Al Hanson did the cover, Al's son in law (and Beck's father), David Campbell, handled the production. It was and is a perfect snapshot of the band at the time." "We did the vocal on Suburban Suicide at some little studio near downtown L.A. that David knew. It was the only thing not recorded at Gladstones. David also edited out an 8 bar vamp that we used to put between chorus/verse, thinking it made the song too long for a single. After hearing the record, we played it that way live after that." "As for Phillipe, he apparently suffered a series of personal and business problems, resulting in a total loss of nearly everythig he owned, including thousands of photos of not only the Controllers, but Iggy and the Stooges, and dozens of other artists. His entire stock of unsold singles ended up in a landfill somewhere. It was a tragic loss for the music world and devastating for Philippe." "The good news is that Philippe is back! He is releasing all the Siamese tracks under his reformed label, Siamese Dogs Records, as well as putting out tons of new product. We are very happy to renew our association with Philippe and the new Cd, 'Godfathers of Punk' should be available in a store near you, soon, or you can visit the Siamese dogs site and download any and all songs. the URL is: http://www.siamesedogsrecords.com Johnny Stingray |
